    Jared Muse

    Owner and Coach

Jared Muse - Owner, Coach and Director of Fun

Jared Muse started doing CrossFit in 2009 and was immediately drawn to the mix of competitiveness and camaraderie. He values the friendships that develop from working through tough challenges together. Before coming to the sport, Jared played and taught golf professionally for ten years and also had a background in basketball, baseball, and track. He brings to Koda OKC the same eye for detail that he used as a golf pro, helping his athletes make the adjustments they need in order to improve.

Jared's clients can expect a hard workout and a good time. As he explains it, "I want them to leave the gym smiling, no matter how tired their bodies may feel." In that spirit, he keeps classes fun, and constantly pushes his athletes to be their best. Jared also has a talent for persuading people to try new things. He loves celebrating with clients when they accomplish feats they did not know they could do. He also frequently pulls together groups to participate in local running events, especially events that benefit a good cause.

He is largely - or perhaps entirely - responsible for the color scheme at Koda OKC. Originally from Heavener, Oklahoma, Jared now lives in Edmond with his amazing and very adored wife, Mai, and their two dogs. He wants Koda OKC to grow into a fitness community with a positive impact throughout the Oklahoma City area.

    Chad Hamilton

Chad Hamilton - Social Media Director, Coach and Football Trainer

Chad's eight years of CrossFit experience make him a valuable addition to Koda's coaching roster. As a coach, he exudes a calm confidence and focuses on correction of form. In both nutrition education and fitness, he helps his clients realize that they are more than what society says they should be.

Not exactly your everyday CrossFitter, Chad Hamilton has gone through a long evolutionary process in the CrossFit world. As a nine-year member of various affiliates across the US, Chad has found his way through the varieties of specializations and training styles that CrossFit has to offer. As a certified CrossFit Football trainer and self-acclaimed "Power Athlete," it is no wonder why Chad has such an affinity towards the Strength & Conditioning portion of CrossFit. Luckily for Koda, their members get to reap the rewards of this obsession.

    Drew Hymer

    Drew Hymer - Trainer

Drew Hymer, an Oklahoma City firefighter since 2008, found CrossFit while looking for a way to physically prepare for the Fire Academy. In 2009, he met Brice and Jared, who have remained his close friends and co-competitors ever since.

An intimidating looking, tattooed beast of a man, Drew is a formidable competitor. Yet he can often be found with a toddler sitting on his shoulders, followed by a group of excited kids, because his enjoyment of CrossFit is contagious. Drew acknowledges that he would not have achieved his competitive success if training were not also fun.

And while he takes his training and competitions seriously, he most enjoys coaching those who are new to CrossFit. "It takes guts to try something out of your comfort zone," he says. It's exciting to see CrossFit helping regular people become healthier. From recent college graduates to grandmothers trying something new, Drew works with all kinds of clients at Koda. "I like the mix of people and the peaceful atmosphere. I am blessed to have met so many great people and role models here that my son will grow up around."

Drew credits Koda with bringing him a lot of happiness, which he hopes to share with his classes. He likes to give his students a place to center themselves, focus, and take a break from life's responsibilities and stresses in a healthy way. Drew and his wife live in Oklahoma City with their son Max and their boxer Beast. When he's not focused on squatting, Drew enjoys bacon, sports radio, Disney movies, Will Ferrell quotes, and dropping sick beats.

    Anthony Robb

Anthony Robb - Coach and Koda Movements Trainer

Anthony (affectionately known around Koda as "A-Robb") used to be the guy that corporate gyms bank on: he would pay for a membership then only sporadically show up. Though he enjoyed some recreational basketball and had taken up running, he says it was with CrossFit that he finally found something that would keep him consistent in fitness. "Once I got into the lifts and movements I had never done before, I was hooked." He points to the constant variation, the ability to continually improve, and the overall fun as reasons why, after more than three years doing CrossFit, he has never felt bored or burned out with his workouts.

Anthony began coaching in order to share his passion and help other people have the same great experiences that he has had. He likes to emphasize that CrossFit is for everyone. "I'm a normal person," he says, "which proves you don't have to be an elite athlete in order to participate." He adopts his clients' goals as his own and strives to be a positive influence both in and away from the gym. He loves seeing how CrossFit and the Koda family help people change their lives.

    Mai Muse

    General Manager

Mai Muse - General Manager and Chief of First Impressions

Mai will forever be known as "Momma" at Koda CrossFit. Opening Koda with her husband, Jared Muse, in December of 2011 while their partner, Brice Collier, was overseas was very challenging but has proved to be very rewarding. With over 200 "kids" now, her duties at the gym have expanded as well. If you ever have a boo-boo, Mai will take care of you. Need someone to talk to, Mai is there to listen. Be careful though, you may find yourself in "time out" if you're on the wrong end of gym etiquette.

Mai wears many hats at Koda and the gym would not be where it is and have the environment that it has without her there making sure things run smoothly. Regardless if you're a member, an out-of-towner or trying Koda out for the first time, you'll be greeted at the door by her and you can tell right away that there is a lot of love behind that smile of hers.

"We started Koda with the idea that we would do our part to try and help the crossfit community grow. To have a gym that our members enjoy coming to, hanging out, working out, making friends and leave feeling better about themselves because they know they gave their all for 1 hour. I want our members to be happy and healthy. I want them to want to be at Koda and feel like it is a safe place for them to be themselves and to be able to work out the stresses of their day. I want them to feel appreciated and know that without them, there is no Koda."

    Tre Benefield

    Tre Benefield - Coach

Tre started Crossfit shortly after being stationed at Tinker AFB in 2013. Bored of squatting alone in the cramped on base gym, he came to Koda looking for like-minded folks who strive to be better in all walks of life. "I knew there was something special here at Koda when I could still have a blast finishing last in every workout." "Every workout..." "For three months."

A former collegiate sprinter, specializing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, he knows firsthand the positive stimulus a little competition can provide. His athletic background is varied though; he's at home on the track, the court, the pitch or a mountain. Competing is important to Tre, big or small; he believes it's a great way to unlock the hidden potential in all of us.

In coaching, his favorite moments are watching someone click into a movement he's teaching or correcting. "Seeing someone figure it out is the best. You're literally watching the physical manifestation of their synapses firing in ways they weren't just a second ago."

For Tre, Koda IS Crossfit. It was his introduction and where he plans to continue growing.

"I like being associated with a group of people who are aware of their limits but refuse to let them be permanent. I love that every single day; each person that walks through the doors has the opportunity to earn a "win" by exerting just a bit more effort than yesterday."

Tre is passionate about quality movement, and through personal experience, knows that with repetition and time that quality movement will mold you into a better human.

    Taylor Sanders

    Taylor Sanders - Coach

I have always been very competitive! I enjoy fitness, being active and playing games. I'm a huge child! I love practicing skills and the sense of accomplishment I feel when I master them. I love lifting heavy things and feeling strong. My first CrossFit class was in 2012. I was hooked from day one! It's so fun. There are so many variables, it's always something new!

I started coaching at Koda in 2014 and I am grateful for every second. I look forward to the hours I get to spend at the gym and all the different people I get to be around. Helping them with their fitness goals and seeing their excitement when they achieve something makes me feel very happy.

Another reason why I do crossfit is because it makes everyday life that much easier. Like, walking up my stairs, carrying all 15 sacks of groceries in a one time, or walking around the zoo all day!

Lastly, I like to tell people it saved my life. Because it did. My appendix ruptured in 2015 and poisoned me for two days. My surgeon told me that because I came in so healthy, I probably lived a day longer than I should have. That's neat, to me. That my body is that tough.

CrossFit prepares you for life. I love it so much!

    Christopher Espinoza

    Christopher Espinoza - Coach

Chris Espinoza found CrossFit in 2013 while a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at East Central University when he was needing something to fill that competitive drive that was left from playing collegiate football at East Central. CrossFit became that fix. Chris has a strong coaching background, coaching two years for East Central's football team. He boasts having coached two NFL players, Caleb Holley of the Buffalo Bills and Armonty Bryant of the Cleveland Browns.

Anything with a barbell revs his engine, especially Olympic lifting. He started lifting and coaching under Alan Ogles, who coached and kicked off Chad Vaughn's career.

He now calls Oklahoma home after being born and raised in California. And is what might be called "a California dream"- tall, dark, handsome, and Mexican. He loves Jesus, family, Mexican food, coffee, fashion (he is ,arguably, the best dressed), tattoos, dancing and live music!

    Doug Bridges

    Doug Bridges - Coach

Shortly after moving to Oklahoma in 2012, Doug joined Koda CrossFit. He was looking for something to help him shed a few unwanted pounds and the local gym wasn’t cutting it. Growing up, Doug was involved with football, baseball, basketball, hockey and track, so the competitive nature of CrossFit kept him coming back. While Doug has never been a member at any CrossFit gym besides Koda, he knows it is the best fit for him because of the community and the constant push to improve that is provided at Koda.

Although he has been a member since 2012, Doug has only been coaching since 2016. When coach/owner, Jared Muse, asked if he would be interested in taking a CrossFit L1 course, he didn’t have to think twice. His answer was “Yes!” From that point forward, Doug has been extremely excited about coaching. “I look forward to the end of my day, when I get to head to the gym. Whether it be to coach or to workout myself, I always know I’m going to have a great time.”

    Ryan Wilkinson - Coach

Ryan started CrossFitting in 2008 off of the main site. In 2009 he joined CrossFit OKC in Oklahoma City and was a member there until he moved to Enid in 2011. While in Enid Ryan helped the owners open CrossFit Enid in 2014 and became the head programmer until moving back to OKC in May of 2017. Before CrossFit, Ryan was a multi-sport athlete in high school and then played baseball for 4 years at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK.

Ryan came to CrossFit looking to fulfill the competitive drive he had in his days of athletics. "I first found CrossFit looking for something to push myself physically and mentally. I was tired of the mundane gym experience. As I've come to understand CrossFit in more depths, I'm realizing this is a journey not a destination. It's motivating to not only see yourself improve but also see your members improve. Seeing joy in a members face when they hit a new PR makes it exciting to come coach every day." Besides CrossFit Ryan is a teacher and head basketball coach at Bethany High School.

    Ignacio Antonio Velasco Gil

Ignacio Antonio Velasco Gil "Nacho" - Coach

Ignacio Antonio Velasco Gil (kindly known as Nacho across the world) is one of the newest additions to the Koda family. Nacho began his CrossFit ventures in 2014 at CrossFit Stillwater, and after a few classes he was hooked. Life has taken Nacho all over the place, but now he has landed in OKC and has introduced himself to Koda. He pointed out, “I’m glad life has taken me to OKC, I love my gym and especially my new community."

Nacho served as an assistant coach at CrossFit Stillwater throughout his college career at Oklahoma State University. He says, “I loved every second of it. Being able to help the members become mentally and physically stronger." Nacho describes himself as a people person, “I LOVE talking to people about their day and how they are doing. I believe in the power of a smile, and if I can help anyone to improve their day, I’m more than willing to hear them out.”

Regarding coaching, his theory is to make each person aware of his or her body and how capable each person can really be. “Oh man, I love watching people overcome small fears, like doing their first pull up, doing their first box jump or just watching them be proud of their body… it makes me so happy." Nacho is devoted to helping anyone around him and very avidly interested in excellence in movement patterns and will promise you a good time during his classes every day!

    Sam Legler

    Sam Legler - Admin Staff

Sam first started a CrossFit like workout while rowing at the University of Oklahoma. She remembers attempting a power clean for the first time and soon after that she found Koda.

When she is not saving lives as a Registered Nurse at the hospital, she enjoys spending the majority of her time at Koda. So when Jared joked around about her being the new Koda DJ, of course she was super excited.

Sam loves working behind the scenes of Koda, helping to manage the front desk, organizing competitions, and cheering people on.

When people come in for the first time to try out our functional fitness, she finds herself talking about her own personal experiences with Koda. Sam tells them about the different Koda programming and that no matter what goals they have, they can fulfill here at Koda with a great community.
